Be A Rebel And Join Me In Highlighting The Joys of 2020
Many incredible things happened in 2020 & gratefulness is flowing from my heart.
I’m so thankful! I officially have a 1 year old! As a working mother, I never imagined being home with #BabyGambrell for the first full year of his life. It’s been a blessing to say the least. I was present for his first words, “da da” of course, followed by “mama,” watching my son take his first steps and learning his favorite genres of music and nursery songs. He loves to sing and dance like his dad and great grandfather, Columbia Records artist Claude Maxwell. I’ve watched my son dribble and shoot a basketball for the first time and toss a football across his room at a moments notice. I am so excited about Jeffrey Michael Gambrell II’s future. Maybe he’ll be on the cover of the Sports section of the Los Angeles Times like my father or a member of the illustrious Phi Beta Kappa honor society like his great grandmother, Bessie Simpson. I am so very grateful to be home to watch my son grow and will continue to take in every possible second.
Photos are worth a 1000 words, but video is indeed a game changer. A colleague of mine told me to make sure that I take more videos than photos of my son, and I’m so happy that she did. I recommend that to all new mothers: more videos than photos! Being able to look back at videos and see his advancement warms my heart like no other.
I’ve nursed my son since birth. I am actually trying to wean him off, pray for me, y’all! Please & thanks. I am grateful to be able provide him with nourishment and do not take the honor for granted but I do think it’s time to shift and wean.
The past couple months has taught me that as long as we are breathing we should grow and become the best possible version of ourselves.
I’ve known my husband for well over a decade and being locked in a house together for 9 months has introduced me to a new person and for that I’m grateful. I’m thankful to God that still after all these many years, I’m still learning who he is and seeing him blossom as a father to his favorite person and fellow namesake. His twin in his opinion, my twin if you ask me. :)
I don’t take it for granted that people evolve, change, and grow. As long as we are breathing we should grow and become the best we can be. With time you can meet someone over and over again and moreover discover a new person who is striving to be better than yesterday. I am learning who my husband is in this new season and beyond.
The pandemic is a forceful reminder that nothing is more valuable than God, health and family. Faith is imperative when things are going as expected and when they’re not. Participating in praise and worship at home is a true blessing and I look forward to it daily. As a family, we’ve been watching Voices of Fire on Netflix produced by Pharrell Williams for some gospel praise. My husband, son and I have been singing along to every episode like we’re in a sanctuary. Music is so powerful. Gospel music has kept our spirits alive during the pandemic.
The pandemic has also reminded the entire world that there’s wealth in health. Keeping up with health is at the top of my priority list. And speaking of wealth, the pandemic has also reminded me that there’s power in being a phenomenal saver with impeccable credit. I welcome the black community to embrace financial conversations. Unfortunately, it has been taboo to talk about money, but it’s important as a Black woman to discuss pay equity and finances to make sure we’re all earning our worth.
When I say I am THANKFUL that 2021 is coming! Honey, T H A N K F U L N E S S is flowing from my heart.
2021 is upon us...it’s around the corner, and it’s filled with newness. New opportunities to grow in the Lord, new celebrations, new connections, new relationships, new work and excitedly many more firsts for #BabyGambrell. I cannot wait to see what God has in store. Here’s to growth of the Gambrell family, my SONshine, prioritizing God, health, wealth, and celebrating wins rather big or small. A little over three years ago, I blogged about Expecting the Unexpected & Healing Accordingly, I am thinking about that post right now, and tapping into that knowledge.
Here’s to 2021, rolling with the curve balls of life from pressure to diamonds celebrating every single worthy moment without hesitation. Remember, You’re alive because there’s so much more life to live.
